Have you seen Avenue Q yet? If not, you must!
Most guys and many girls will tell you “I’m not really into musicals.” I know for me, watching a sexually questionable bloke singing of his heart's desire for his the shy girl-next-door while dancing in tights with a chorus behind him, is not my idea of a great way to spend my Friday night. However after seeing Avenue Q, I, and I would venture to guess that they, will change their….tune.
Avenue Q is the story of a recent college grad who moves to Avenue Q in Manhattan to start his life by discovering who he is and where he belongs in the world. Reading this I’m sure you’re thinking, well that doesn’t sound awesome, kind of expected. That’s true, however what makes Avenue Q amazing is that instead of people acting it’s puppets...muppet like puppets! And instead of scenes surrounding a disfigured man wearing a lot of make-up and a cape or a ho-down on the farm in Oklahoma, we are treated to disturbing...but fun puppet sex, a chorus of male muppets singing of their love for internet porn or the antics of the slumlord of the building everyone live in who is none other than Gary Coleman..."What u talkin' 'bout Willis"! Rather than following characters like an 18th century english orphan or cats....lots and lots of cats, you are treated to a monster puppet who is addicted to porn and a Bert and Ernie like duo, where Bert is an in-the-closet Republican who sings about his girlfriend from Canada. It is inappropriate and offending in everyway, but that's why I love it!
I was so inspired by the show that I think I have found my Halloween costume, Mrs. Thistletwat, here I come.
If this hasn’t convinced you, here is a list of the inspiring songs your treated to:
1. It Sucks to Be Me
2. What Do You Do with a BA in English
3. The Internet is for Porn
4. If You Were Gay
5. My Girlfriend who lives in Canada
6. You Can Be as Loud as the Hell You Want, When You're Making Love
